Tulum has more coastline than its reputation suggests. Here is where I shoot couples — at the hours and the stretches I trust to be quiet and beautiful.
The beach road, north end, just after sunrise. Soft, gold, and almost no one. The stretch in front of a handful of small hotels gives wide sand, palm shadows and a clean horizon.
Sian Ka’an side. South of the hotel zone, the protected biosphere starts. Light feels different here — wilder, the palms more raw. I bring couples who want a moodier image.
The little coves between Tulum and Akumal. Half the time these are unmarked turnoffs from the highway. Worth the small adventure.
Sunset on the central beach. Busier, but the light is unreal — for couples who want golden cinematic colour over privacy.
How to actually find them empty: arrive forty minutes before sunrise, or the last hour before sunset on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Avoid weekends and the week between Christmas and New Year unless you’re willing to walk a long way.
